Carlsbad State Beach Photoshoot – Family Portraits

I was so excited when I found out that Ashley Franklin (@ashleyfranklinphoto) was coming to my town of Carlsbad for a vacation with her adorable family! We decided to do their family photoshoot at Carlsbad State Beach, which during the winter months is covered in piles of rocks! I actually love the dimension the rocks bring and although it was tough to walk on, we still got some incredible shots.

Their baby, Ronan, is probably the easiest baby to photograph in the whole world. At 10 months old, he literally knew how to “smile for the camera.” Ashley has obviously done a great job at teaching him! I don’t often do family portraits, but when I do I love to work with new families like theirs. I smiled the entire time I was editing these photos (probably all those adorable toothless grins smiling back at me) & I just had to share them with you!

Family Photos Neutral Color Palette

Ashley put together a neutral color palette for her family’s outfits with a pop of color for the baby. I think this color scheme is absolutely idea for any family photos. Adding a cute accessory like a hat is also a great idea to give the photos a little extra pop. This neutral / earth tones color palette for family photos is so much better than matching everyone in the same color.

When Ronan sat in the sand, you could see his little mind working. “Hmmm… this looks tasty.” Let’s talk about his adorable little onesie as well.
